King George or Donald Trump?
History repeats itself after 250 years
Can you guess which of these quotes were said about King George III and which were said about Donald J. Trump?
“Endeavored to prevent the population of these States . . . obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions . . .”
“obstructed the Administration of Justice”
“Made Judges dependent on his Will alone”
“Sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people”
“He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.”
“cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world”
“imposing Taxes on us without our Consent”
“depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury”
“transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences”
“He has excited domestic insurrections . . .”
These are all quotes of indictment of King George III from the Declaration of Independence—the same document that hangs in the Oval Office mere feet from Donald Trump.
Ironically, Trump has never read it: “Well, it means, exactly what it says. It’s a declaration, it’s a declaration of unity and love and respect, and it means a lot, and it’s something very special to our country.” (Donald Trump to Terry Moran (ABC News), April 29, 2025.)
“A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” – The Declaration of Independence, a very special document to our country.
